Chedworth Roman Villa sits in the heart of the Cotswolds, and is a fine example of Romano-British architecture. Owned by The National Trust, it has a number of mosaic floors, hypocausts (under-floor heating) and a bath house.
This was an early test site for us, and the visitor could choose between the character of Livia (daughter of the villa's owner) and Marcus (the builder) to show you around. Livia would tell stories about what she would get up to, and Marcus mostly boasted about how he went about building the place.
If you chose the game, you would be helping the ghosts of Marcus or Livia find a gold coin so that they could finally cross the River Styx and reach Hades.
The site is surrounded by woodland and hills, making GPS reception very unreliable. This gave us the opportunity to trial Wi-Fi pingers, created by Cliff Randell to work with Mscape. They helped to solve the problem of what to do in locations where GPS cannot be used.
