Ship Aground

Ship Aground

A currently active audio-only experience created for The National Trust at Morte Hoe in North Devon, just north of Woolacombe. The story is set in 1809, around the wrecking and smuggling activity that went on in the area:

We respectfully announce there to be a SHIP AGROUND AT MORTE POINT, and do hereby give notice of a Singular and Unprecedented Expedition to reach the stricken ship before the arrival of such Customs Men as would disrupt the collection of vital items washed overboard.

Through the utilisation of the Most Modern GPS-enabled technological appliance, the visitor will be guided to the Point, accompanied by young Sarah, herself being native to Morte Hoe. The Public are advised to furnish themselves with Fortitude and Purpose.

Handsets and headphones are available from the Morte Hoe Heritage Centre in the village car park. The experience lasts 40 minutes and has some decisions to be made, and it takes the visitor down to Morte Point. You then have to walk back, which takes a similar length of time.
